It all started with phthalo blue, an acrylic tube of paint that was crying out to me. I sat alone in my atelier, showered in light, as the sun poured through the bay windows. Pillowed and scented down in golden rays, as the morning kissed the pale yellow wash on my walls; I was contemplating my next masterpiece in quiet reverie. I have always been a first responder to color. And there it was; phthalo – a magical blue so alluring, that even the sea turns a jealous eye on it’s beauty.
Quickly, I got out the brushes. Soon, the canvas was primed in the color of night; a hue so captivating it demands an emotional response. Next came the sprinkling of stardust, and some moonlight to entice the lovers. A tree sprung up from the ground while tiny birds sang softly in it’s branches. A young lady in shadow suddenly appears with her umbrella, just before the rain.
Yes, I was learning how to make it rain. It’s funny how you can do that. But there I was, with a dropper full of water and acrylic paint, making it rain on my canvas. There is something refreshing, but also sad about rain; just as life is sometimes bittersweet. Like water vapor, it’s easy to let our fears and worries accumulate and gather into storm clouds, until finally one day, the heavy burden lets lose a torrent of rain in the form of tears. I have seen plenty of stormy weather in my life – perhaps you have too.
One reason, we struggle so in this life, is because we fail to give God our burdens. In a letter to the Philippians the Apostle Paul writes: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:6-7). It doesn’t always mean the trial will disappear quickly but God promises to guard our hearts and minds so that we can have peace even in the midst of our difficulty. What storm are you facing today? Are you letting the wind and the rain derail you? What do you need to give to God?
“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken,” (Psalm 55:22).
If you’ve never had the opportunity to receive Christ Jesus as your Savior – WHY WAIT? When the first man and woman disobeyed God in the Garden, the whole world fell into sin. “As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;” (Romans 3:10).
God in His infinite wisdom sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for your sin debt on the Cross, to be buried, and to rise from the dead on the third day. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” (John 3:16).
“For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost,” (Luke 19:10). If you’ve been bearing the burden of the storm on your own, turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Trust Him. For God is bigger than all your problems.
